Hon. James Faleke, suggested during a debate on sexual violence and harassment, particularly on the rape and murder of two young girls in Oyo and Benin city.
The House of Rep attached weak institutions, poor enforcement, poverty and unacceptable social practices as the causes for the rising rape incidents in Nigeria.
The lawmakers rejected Faleke suggestion of castration as punishment for a person convicted for rape when the speaker of the house, Fani Gbajabiamila subjected it to a voice note.
Also, great noise was generated in the chamber when Faleke asked the faith of an older woman who rapes a younger male.

In addition to the rape cases, the lawmakers said women in Nigeria suffered sexual harassment and brutality in the hands of security agencies.
They also asked the federal government to organize effective campaign against sexual violence and harassment against women.
